Utilizing your Preventive Services

As a member of Zion HealthShare, you may be eligible for a number of preventive services to promote a healthy lifestyle. They are provided automatically with a Direct membership, and Essential members can select them as an optional add-on service. In addition to eating healthy and getting enough exercise, we know it’s a great idea to periodically check in with your doctor or specialist. What’s great is that you don’t need to pay your IUA to access these services, and in this article we will highlight what they are and how to access them. Please also refer to our online Preventive Sharing Guide for additional details.

Annual Provider Visit

Each family member is entitled to a medical provider visit on day one of your membership. The sharing limit is $250 and may be used for an annual check-up, sick visit, or specialist visit. Members may also use their annual visit for services provided by a dentist, optometrist, or mental health provider. Please refer to our online guide for additional details and limitations.

Well Child Visits

Following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, Zion HealthShare will share in up to six (6) well-child visits before the age of 12 months, three visits (3) between 12 months and 24 months, and two (2) visits between 24 months and 36 months. Yearly visits can be shared as the annual provider visit. Please note that there is a six-month waiting period after enrollment.

Youth Immunizations

We follow the CDC guidelines for youth immunizations, and the recommended timeline is available in our Preventive Sharing Guide. Please note that in addition to a six-month waiting period, there are also specific limitations, including the fact that the appointment or visit fees are not shareable, except for those that are part of a well-child or annual provider visit.

Colonoscopies

Screening colonoscopies are available every 10 years beginning at age 45. In addition to the screening and related anesthesia, the diagnostic testing, including biopsies and pathology are also shared. In addition to a six-month waiting period, there is a $5,000 cap, and any separate appointment fees are not considered shareable as part of the colonoscopy service.

Mammograms

We are happy to announce that a yearly mammogram is now shareable beginning at the age of 40 years old (previously 50 years). This includes the exam, evaluation of imaging, and one follow-up appointment. In addition to a six-month waiting period, there is a $600 cap and diagnostic mammograms are not shareable as a preventive serve.
